What do blue signals indicate in a rail yard?

That equipment is being repaired

That the area is occupied, and no one should enter

Blue signals are an important safety feature in rail yards, indicating to personnel that an area is occupied and that no one should enter. This signaling system is critical for the protection of workers who may be engaged in maintenance or inspection tasks in the vicinity of trains or equipment. The presence of a blue signal warns others to exercise caution and to avoid entering the area to prevent accidents or injuries.

Understanding the context of why blue signals are used helps prevent potential hazards in a rail yard environment where workers may be in close proximity to moving equipment or trains. The signals serve as a communication tool that emphasizes the need for safety protocols and respect for the space occupied by workers. This is contrasted with other signal colors and their meanings, which do not convey the same level of caution regarding human presence.
